Captured in High-Definition and Mixed in 5.1 Surround Sound. Grammy winner Sheryl Crow plays all of her massively popular hits in this performance from PBS's Soundstage concert series. The multi-platinum setlist includes "If It Makes You Happy," "My Favorite Mistake," and a unique cover of classic "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding." Also includes the Blu-Ray exclusive bonus track "Members Only".

This entry into the Soundstage DVD catalog is typically well shot with multiple, arguably too many, high definition cameras and stellar surround sound. There is a frustrating lack of information included in the package since neither the show's recording date nor Crow's bandmembers are listed. Judging from the set list though, this was likely on a tour supporting 2002's C'mon, C'mon, since four of its tracks are here, interspersed throughout the 90-minute set of hits, also-rans, a non-album rarity ("Let's Get Free"), and a surprise cover of Nick Lowe's "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding." Or perhaps it was 2003s Very Best Of, since her cover of Cat Stevens' "First Cut Is the Deepest" also appears. Regardless, Crow is in good spirits, changing instruments from bass to electric, and acoustic guitar and piano as her four-piece band supports her with the rehearsed professionalism of the road veterans they are. Crow isn't the most magnetic stage presence but she puts across the tunes with a minimum of fuss and a low-key confidence that's engaging, if somewhat aloof. The constantly changing cameras, lights, and videos on the backing screens try to compensate by keeping things in more motion than is needed. As pop stars go, Crow's performance is, despite some unnecessary drum loops, admirably stripped down; she plays and sings her songs without grandeur or histrionics, bringing a slightly more edgy sound than the album versions but still remaining true to them. It makes for a good, not great, yet representative show that scores points with Crow's credibility even if you can't help but wish there was a little more energy and sweat added to these concert versions other than encouraging the already adoring audience to sing along on "Soak Up the Sun" and clap their hands on other tunes.
