…is it something i said is the 1975 comedy album by Richard Pryor. This was the comedian's first album for Warner Bros. Records and became an immediate success. The CD was released on 24 January, 1995.

With this 1975 comedy album, Richard Pryor firmly established himself as a unique, and hilariously funny, presence within the comedy world. Whether poking fun at his own cocaine addiction or discussing the problem of racism that exists in America, on Is It Something I Said? Pryor is able to be eloquent and ultimately insightful without alienating the audience by sounding preachy or overtly bitter. Probing and exploring the differences between the sexes and races with an understanding and wit that few have ever possessed, Pryor emerges as an achingly funny, yet poignant, voice for his times.

If you only know of Richard Pryor from some of his PG-rated films, and have no idea about his comedy routines or classic comedy albums, you may start here.

His history can be researched elsewhere, but after a number of years on the comedy circuit and being signed to the independent comedy label Laff, Pryor hit the big time when he was signed to Warner Bros. Records. The deal also coincided with his name becoming well known in Hollywood. Becoming a household name wasn't meant to be easy for someone like him, and he knew it too. While others might force themselves to lighten up their act, Pryor went even further. If his early work was considered a man speaking "amongst his own", then it was now time for him to tell it to the people who really needed to hear it.

His brand of comedy was social and racial more than political, although it was social politics. He spoke like a common man from the street, without restraint. He made fun of the pimp, of the preacher, and many times of himself. It's much more than just a glimpse into the life of an African-American, in many ways this album represents a small piece of American history, a piece Pryor did not want overlooked. It was more about peeling a bandage off the wound in slow motion, and telling his audience "hey, let's take a look".
