A violinist in a class of his own, Renaud Capuçon shows why he is 'Le Violon Roi'; (The Violin King) in this 3-CD collection. As the leading French violinist of his generation, Capucon records exclusively for Virgin Classics and has a rich discography. The set brings together not only some of his best and most popular performances as a soloist but as a collaborator.
Each CD in the set represents a musical side of Renaud Capucon. CD One contains his recordings of concertos including Beethoven's sublime concerto for violin & orchestra in D major. A touchstone of any major violinist's repertoire, Capcuon elevates this performance of the concerto with his virtuosity. The Rotterdamn Philharmonic under the direction of Yannick Nezet-Seguin support Capcuon in the recording. CD Two is devoted to chamber music. Capucon's popular recording of Beethoven's Sonatas for violin and piano with Frank Braley is one of the many featured pieces on this disc. Finally, CD Three contains Capucon's favorite Petite Pieces including his recording of Johann Halvorsen's Passacaille d'apres Haendel, a piece he collaborated with his brother Gautier. As one notices from this set, Renaud is a frequent collaborator. Many of artists he performs with are those whom he counts as close friends. His collaborations is one of the distinctive things that sets Renaud apart from his contemporaries. Over the years, as his reputation and virtuosity have grown, as his mastery and maturity have increased, he has been able to build up a network of friendships, partnerships and common bonds. From Vienna to Lugano, from France and Europe to Australia, Renaud Capucon has built his own world, developed his own tastes, his own affinity with other artists who love him and whom he loves in return - they are his family.
