    Horacio Gutierrez was born in 1948 in Habana. He studied music with his mother, then with Cesar Centenat. At eleven he made his first public appearance in Habana with a symphony orchestra conducted by Mantici. Gutierrez continued his studies in Los Angeles under Sergei Tarnovsky and at the Gulliard music school under Adel Markus. He played with symphony orchestras in the USA, including the New York Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Bernstein and performed together with Grigori Pyatigorsky in chamber concerts. In 1970 Horacio Gutierrez took part in the 4th International Tchaikovsky Competition and got the title of laureate.
