Re-release of the fourth Pavlov's Dog album "Lost In America", recorded 1990, plus 10 bonustracks containing a compilation of rare and unreleased live recordings 1990-2006.
Not the best place to start to explore the career of Pavlov's Dog. This was the first sign of life of the band since the late seventies. The album was issued in 1993 but it sounds like it was released during the eighties. The sound of the arrangements of the first albums were very colourful but here, it couldn't be more sober. The album sounds streamlined and cold and there's no variation ; the arrangements of each track are exactly the same. The violin has been replaced by a sax but these parts don't add essential melodies to the songs. What's left of Pavlov's Dog is the wonderful voice of David Surkamp. Although he sings in a lower tone than he use to, he is still a joy to listen to. The song writing is decent but nothing spectacular : plain & simple AOR songs. No traces of progressive rock can be found. The band did retain their talent for writing emotional ballads like "You & I", "Pantomine" or "Brown eyes" but don't expect the pathos of "Julia". I'm sure the tracks on this album would benefit from better arrangements but like it is now. the title for this album couldn't be more suitable.
