Pamina Beroff is a French jazz singer, songwriter and author living in Paris. Born in 1993 from a pianist father and a mother working in jazz, Pamina has been involved in the world of music since her early childhood. Every summer, at the Montreux Jazz Festival, she has the chance to meet musicians such as George Duke, Richard Bona, Angélique Kidjo (and many others…) who inspired her vocation as a jazz singer.
After trying her hand at the piano for a few years, Pamina decided to start singing at the age of eight. She joined the choir of her local conservatory and then the renowned children's choir "Sotto Voce" directed by Scott Alan Proutty where she discovered the world of musicals.
Pamina began her professional apprenticeship as a soloist while working with Melanie Jackson. As a teenager, she turned to jazz with Stephy Haik and then Sarah Lazarus before spending a year at the CIM (Centre d'Informations Musicales) where she took a dedicated course.
There is no doubt that jazz is what drives her!
After these first experiences, in 2013 Pamina went to London to study at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama where she obtained in 2017 her Bachelor degree in "Jazz Performance" with the congratulations of the jury. For four years, Pamina immersed herself in the London music scene where she spent her evenings at Ronnie Scotts' 606 listening and playing with his London quartet: Jonny Wickham (db), Tom Hutchison (dms) and Lyle Barton (pn). She studied with teachers such as Liane Carroll, Ian Shaw, Tina May… and participated in master classes led by Jason Rebello, Marcus Miller, John Abercrombie, Kurt Elling etc. Passionate about vocal improvisation but also about the voice itself, she wrote her thesis on the evolution of scat from 1920 to 2000.
Upon her return to France, Pamina began a collaboration with trumpet player Roman Reidid. She wrote the lyrics, he composed.
From this duo was born the repertoire of her Parisian quartet: Mark Priore on piano, David Paycha on drums, Juan Villarroel on double bass, with whom Pamina recorded her first EP "Sides" to be released in January 2022 on the Jazz Eleven label.
The quartet is also the first jazz group to have be invited to the great classical music festival of Auvers Sur Oise and Pamina selected as the new talent of the festival 2021. Pamina is currently writing for her first album which is going to be recorded in March 2022 with the Belgian pianist and composer Eric Legnini as MD.
