"Stay in Love" is the 4th studio album by American singer Minnie Riperton, released under Epic Records. The album features the hits "Young Willing and Able" and the Stevie Wonder collaboration "Stick Together". Unlike her previous works, the soft soul elements here tend to fade, replaced by a more upbeat disco sound which was the musical trend at the time. "Stick Together" peaked at #23 on Billboard's Hot Dance Play, an alternate version known as "Stick Together (Part One)" reached #57 on the U.S. Hot Black Singles chart. Stay in Love was Riperton's first disco effort and the only of her releases predominantly in the genre. It was also her last album for Epic Records; she subsequently signed to Capitol Records (which she recorded two albums during her lifetime). Moreover, this was Ripperton's first album since her debut, Come to My Garden, that didn't feature her husband Richard Rudolph as a producer or co-producer, although Rudolph still co-wrote the songs. In his place as producer was Motown veteran Freddie Perren in his only collaboration with Ripperton.

Riperton's final release for Epic had its problems, but still included some solid singles, even though only one charted and it didn't go very far. Riperton had begun to channel her powerful voice and didn't rely so much on the octave-leaping screams and effects. Sadly, she now knew she was suffering from cancer and was working diligently for the American Cancer Society, as well as promoting the album and working on her career.

Along with "Perfect Angel" and "Adventures In Paradise", this is one of the key albums of Minnie's career - recorded when she was at the height of her power, forging a whole new soul sound that mixed her incredible voice with jazzy modern arrangements that were a few years ahead of most of the other singers at her level. The album's subtitled "A Romantic Fantasy Set To Music", and it features a swirling mix of ballads and uptempo tunes - all with a sexy sound, and some of the most seductive vocals that Minnie ever recorded. Includes the club groover "Young Willing & Able", plus "Can You Feel What I'm Saying?", "Gettin' Ready for Your Love", "Could It Be I'm In Love", and the great "Stick Together", written with Stevie Wonder.

Abandoning guitar-based soft rock, Riperton and Rudolph jumped onto the disco bandwagon with this release, produced by Freddie Perren, but they didn't know their way around the idiom. It's two parts Donna Summer, one part Roberta Flack, cartoonishly sexual ("Young Willing & Able") and packed with lyrical and musical clichés ("Can You Feel What I'm Saying?"). In this superslick context her high register sounds more than ever like a carnival trick, devoid of emotional impact. The only enjoyable tunes are the closing ballad (title track), which captures some of the mellow power of "Lovin' You," and "Stick Together," an interesting mess co-written by Stevie Wonder with far more musical sections than a typical disco tune. The band is very high-powered: Wilton Felder, Sonny Burke (whose great piano work adds a half-star to the rating), Scott Edwards, Chuck Rainey, Paulinho Da Costa, and Marlo Henderson; the surprise guest star is Pam Grier on finger snaps.
