The Polish jazz syndrome is increasingly being attacked by projects of young musicians, for whom the synthesis of modern jazz is becoming a kind of antidote for building intricate ideas. The album "Colors" by Marek Jakubowski's quartet is a perfect example of a consistent, musical illusion, behind which is not only an excellent composer's skill, but also an excellent sound developed by talented instrumentalists. The saxophonist Marek Konarski plays with a neat improvisation building once melancholic associations, sometimes balancing on the border of strong, energetic improvisation. The pianist Jacek Szwaj is precise and conservative, perfectly moving in the concepts proposed by the composer, is also lyrical and jazz, surrounded by a subtle melody mood. Double bass player Damian Kostka is a seasoned musician, he is perfectly familiar with such structures; he doesn't race with rhythm, doesn't impose pace, he is conservative and formally builds the album's mood. It perfectly harmonizes with the drummer to give the whole idea an interesting, artistic expression. For Marek Jakubowski - drummer and composer, the session is a specific, original challenge. He feels perfectly in the quartet's convention, because it is a vast and shapely structure for his ideas. The album "Colors" is therefore not only the colorful mood of today's jazz, but first and foremost a perfect start for new, young Polish jazz.
