Lassus Quartett - Salvatore Sciarrino: Ombre nel mattino di Piero (2019)

The music of Salvatore Sciarrino is taking place along the edges between sound and silence, between noise and sound. The players who need to choose the points of action very precisely and carefully are confronted with results that highly elude reproducibility and absolute definition. They have to be found, explored, adjusted anew in the very moment they are played.

From the first rehearsal to the last take, the making of this world premiere recording of Sciarrino’s Ombre nel mattino di Piero happened without the use of spoken words. During five days of recording, the quartet, a recording producer and two filmmakers lived and worked together on the windswept Norwegian coast – in silence.
