Kevin Keil - The King of Love (2017)

While it's been more than two decades since the release of See Amid the Winter's Snow, Kevin Keil's last instrumental collection, with The King of Love, we see that his talents have only grown with time. His latest collection offers instrumental arrangements of 10 well-known hymns that set the mood for peaceful moments of worship when words are not needed or desired.

These beautiful arrangements give the liturgical pianist and instrumentalist wonderful options for moments when a short instrumental is appropriate such as the prelude, presentation and preparation of the gifts, meditation, post-communion, postlude and more. They would also be welcome additions for healing or reconciliation services.

Arranged for piano and C instrument, the parts are accessible and approachable for most church musicians. The presence of these hymns in OCP missals and hymnals over the years means that most musicians will already be familiar with most of these melodies.

One of the more unique arrangements, "Amazing Grace" combines the melody of one of—if not the—most iconic song in church history with Pachelbel's equally popular Canon in D Major. Another interesting combination is "Come, Holy Ghost," which interweaves the familiar Pentecost hymn with Kevin's own "One Spirit, One Church."

With The King of Love, Kevin once again has succeeded in providing an array of moving arrangements that will lead listeners to a deeper reflection and closer inner conversation with God.
