Rockland is the third studio album by Norwegian band Katzenjammer. It was released on January 16, 2015 in Europe and on March 10, 2015 in North America. Katzenjammer are nothing if not distinctive. Formed at an Oslo music school in 2005, the four girls play a diverse blend of country, folk, blues, pop and rock. From Tennessee's Bonnaroo to Australia's Woodford Folk Festival, the quartet have enraptured tens-of-thousands with their genre-mixing, instrument-swapping and riotous shows. Their 2008 debut, 'Le Pop', showed that they were as fun on record as live and 2011's 'A Kiss Before You Go' was a symphonic journey through the emotions, full of vigour and vocal harmonies. Throughout this all they have done things their own way. 'Rockland' is undoubtedly their most refined and accomplished effort so far. "We wanted to go back to the roots and be more stripped and not add all these symphonic things," says Anne Marit. The moods ebb and flow throughout; from the bass-heavy and rapped 'Oh My God' to more serene and melody-led tracks like 'My Own Tune' and 'Lady Grey'. Yet this is no bare-bones record. It is still unmistakably Katzenjammer; a more focused version of the adventure and unbounded excitement for which they are known. Each member travelled across the world to write songs for Rockland, including separate visits to Nashville for Anne Marit and Marianne and to London for Solveig. A staggering total of 83 songs was the result, though this was reduced to the eleven which make up Rockland. With these they have managed to distil their essence at its purest. "I think it's kind of even closer to what we want Katzenjammer to be because it's directly from the source of the band," says Solveig.

An all-female Norwegian quartet whose musical style is rooted in both pop/rock and country-folk, Katzenjammer made their full-length debut in 2008 with Le Pop, an album that was both critically and commercially successful. Founded in 2005 in Oslo, Norway, the quartet is comprised of multi-instrumentalists Turid Jørgensen, Solveig Heilo, Marianne Sveen, and Anne Marit Bergheim, who between them play accordion, mandolin, guitar, piano, balalaika bass, glockenspiel, trumpet, kazoo, melodica, banjo, drums, and more. Katzenjammer is closely associated with songwriter Mats Rybø, though they also write songs of their own. The band cites a wide range of influences that include Goran Bregovi, Danny Elfman, Django Reinhardt, and Knutsen & Ludvigsen. Katzenjammer made their album debut in 2008 with Le Pop on Propeller Recordings. In addition to "A Bar in Amsterdam," which was something of a breakout novelty hit, Le Pop includes the singles "Play My Darling, Play" and "Hey Ho on the Devil's Back." Nominated for a Spellemannprisen (i.e., Norwegian Grammy) award for best debut album of the year in 2008, Le Pop was a Top Ten hit on the Norwegian albums chart and was reissued in 2009 with the addition of "Demon Kitty Rag," a new single. Besides their critical and commercial success as recording artists, Katzenjammer is formidable live act that was booked for major international music festivals such as the 2009 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in the United States.
