    Both Demus and Badura-Skoda give excellent, deeply idiomatic accounts of several short pieces here. The prize of this disc however, is their interpretation of the great 2 piano sonata, a work they have played for at least half a century and have recorded already several times, though never before on historic instruments. The miracle here, and I use the word advisedly, is that the sonata, one of the core works of the 4 hand repertoire (which they have expounded better than any other team since Artur and Karl Ulrich Schnabel) is it's exception freshness. It is brash and cheeky (I believe "Frecheit" is the word in German), corresponding perfectly with the personality of the composer in this exuberant work. While these are performers in their full maturity, I have seldom hear a Mozart so youthful. Only Friederich Gulda's "Mozart Tapes" reveals Mozart playing which is as shockingly brash, yet tinged with feeling which utterly convinces the listener that "this is how it HAS to go".
