Get On The Good Food is the 1972 double album by James Brown. Released in the month of October, the album featured the hit "Get On The Good Foot" plus updated versions of "Cold Sweat", "Lost Someone", "Please, Please, Please", and "Ain't It A Groove". This CD was released in 1993.

Trying to collect James Brown today is probably like a kid running into a candy store with loose change in his pocket. One can only imagine what it was like to have experienced his output in real time, where he not only released singles, but albums, and also participated in the projects of his proteges.

According to the liner notes by Harry Weinger, this is considered to be a "transition record". James Brown had now become a major label act after being with King Records for years. In two years he released four albums, and Get On The Good Foot was his first to be done with a major label budget. Not only that, but this was a double album. It features a mixture of brand new songs, along with new renditions of "Cold Sweat", "Lost Someone", "Ain't It A Groove", and "Please, Please, Please". JB was a workaholic throughout this era of his career, right up to and including the post-1974 disco era.

Most of the songs on this were recorded in 1972 when James Brown found himself bringing in some of the best musicians around, including Bernard "Pretty" Purdie, Joe Farrell, Hugh McCracken, Jon Faddis, Randy Brecker, Michael Brecker, Gordon Edwards, and Joe Beck, literally a who's who of jazz and funk from the 1970's. A few of the songs do have the old Famous Flames stand-by's, including a then-unused take from the Bootsy-era band. Despite the differences in the band lineup for each song, Get On The Good Foot is very solid, and again a "transition record" bridging the old and the new, towards what JB would be doing for the next few years.
