    In 1981 Ian Thomas released his seventh solo album, The Runner. Like its predecessor Glider he offers once again an album filled with warm pop in the style of Steely Dan, Marc Jordan and Hall & Oates. Do not think it's wrong to compare him with James Taylor, Elton John and Billy Joel when there are clear references to 70s pop here too.

    Actually think it's strange that he did not become bigger than he is. Ok, in his native Canada, he is well known, but beyond that, he is relatively unknown. Does think that he is as good as the once I compare him with, especially when on this one and the masterpieces Riders on Dark Horses (1984) and Add Water (1985).

    The Runner follows as stated its predecessor Glider with warm West Coast pop filled with emotional, yet catchy melodies. Tracks like "I Am The One," "Stingin' A Line" and "Borrowed Time" shows this in the best of ways as well as Ian’s talent in creating memorable melodies. Interestingly, Manfred Mann's Earth Band, Chicago and Santana all did covers of tracks on this album a few years later. This is no coincidence as the The Runner is very well made with amazing and memorable melodies from start to end.
