    The singular blues odyssey of Mike McMillan has taken him from his native Canada to Clarksdale, Mississippi, with extended residencies in Chicago and Boston nestled between. In 1985, it also gave him a distinctive stage moniker, one he retains to this day. Since then, Guitar Mikey and the Real Thing have steadily gained renown for their distinctive high-energy sound. ''I would describe it as hybrid blues, or blues-rock,'' says Mikey. ''I'm definitely a blues guitar player, I definitely write some blues, but not everything I do is strictly blues. Some of it's got a rockier edge, some of it's got a funkier edge.'' Mikey's ferocious axe (he's fiery on slide as well as single-string leads) and impassioned vocals have never been captured more effectively on record than on this self-produced collection, cut in Clarksdale with an impressive array of musical cohorts.

    Guitar Mikey releases his first studio album in over 20 years with Chicago Blues Label Earwig Music. He has a great supporting cast including world renown harmonica player Billy Gibson, Bob Margolin (Muddy Waters) on guitar, David Maxwell on keyboards, Peter Nunn (Gowan, The Jitters, Honeymoon Suite) on keyboards, Marty Richards (Joe Perry Project, J Geils) on drums, Nellie "Tiger" Travis on vocals and some great Clarkdale area folks including Terry "Big T" Williams on Bass, Lee Williams on drums, Alphonso Sanders on sax and Super Chikan on Guitar. The album has done well and been on the Roots Report since May, 2012, reaching #1 Canadian Roots and #12 USA Blues in August, 2012.

    Guitar Mikey and the Real Thing are definite proof that blues is fresh and alive. With the funk of James Brown and the intensity of Buddy Guy combined with the heaviness of Led Zeppelin the band has earned the opportunity to share the bill with such artists as The Thunderbirds, John Mayall, Johnny and Edgar Winter and even hard rock bands the likes of Nazareth.

    At eleven years old, Guitar Mikey had already established his destined path when sneaking back stage to meet slide guitar mentor, Muddy Waters. At the age of twelve he began playing in local rock bands and at sixteen, began fronting the critically acclaimed - award winning Steel City Blues Band. Later, this band would feature, and then back Canada’s King Biscuit Boy. Over the years Mikey has been seen from Toronto to Buffalo, Chicago, to Boston, and now in his new home of Clarksdale, Mississippi sharing the stage with the likes of Honeyboy Edwards, Yank Rachel, Buddy Guy, Otis Rush, Billy Branch, Carl Weathersby, Long John Baldry and Paul Butterfield. Many Hamilton fans remember the years of Mikey's regular Sunday night where he helped build the popularity of Hess Village's club, The Gown & Gavel. Here Guitar Mikey would regularly have musicians sit in like Carey Bell, Phil Guy, Eddie Kirkland, Eddie Shaw, Luther Tucker, Don Walsh to name a few. Most recently he has reached his final destination, Clarksdale Mississippi. This is where he will continue playing the music he loves, in the place it was born. Guitar Mikey and the Real Thing live, are hot, heavy and electric.
