    Biography: Winning the amateur night at the famed Apollo theatre in Harlem and singing in New York's
    top clubs and night spots was the start of Salena's lifetime in music. She was born Joan Shaw in Newport News, Virginia, and is a direct descendant of Crazy Horse, the Sioux Indian warrior. She moved to New York as a teenager and had a wonderful jazz education mixing with the greats - Bud Powell, Billie Holiday, Miles Davis, Dinah Washington, Dizzy Gillespie, Sarah Vaughan and Stan Getz.
    In 1964 the noted jazz critic Leonard Feather named her as one of his four 'Jazz Performers Of The Year' - along with Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee and Mel Torme.
    A year later, as a result of the racial unrest in her own country she moved to Europe, settling in England. Her London management persuaded her to change her name and that's when she became Salena Jones.
    She signed to CBS records, and quickly established herself as an international artist, performing on every continent in festivals, concerts halls, clubs and on TV and radio.
    Her first tour of Japan in 1978 led to a long association with JVC Victor who continue to release her albums in Japan and Asia, where she is hailed as the 'Queen of Jazz'.
    Salena also toured Japan with the Royal Philharmonic Pops Orchestra.
    She has recorded with Carlos Jobim, Kenny Burrell, Richie Cole, Toots Thielemans and legendary arrangers Keith Mansfield, Don Costa and Billy May.
    Her album 'My Love' went platinum in Japan - Steve Gadd, Eric Gale, Cornell Dupree, Gordon Edwards & Richard Tee were her backing musicians.
    In a career that spans over 50 years Salena has appeared with Louis Armstrong, Tom Jones, Ray Brown, Lionel Hampton, Cab Calloway, 'King' Curtis, Hank Jones, Dexter Gordon, Arturo Sandoval and Maynard Ferguson.
    With her natural stage presence and wide repertoire - ranging from latin to the blues, and from classic standards to the best of contemporary songs . . .
