    Dust - Dust - 1971 (1994)

Dust Band Biography:At the dawn of the '70s, hard rock and early heavy metal were almost completely dominated by British innovators. Dust was one of the few American bands to try picking up the gauntlet, playing a progressive brand of proto-metal that was explicitly indebted to their British contemporaries. Formed around 1968, the group featured vocalist/guitarist Richie Wise and the teenaged rhythm section of bassist Kenny Aaronson (who also doubled on slide and steel guitars) and drummer Marc Bell; plus, Kenny Kerner served as the group's lyricist, manager, and producer. Dust released their self-titled debut album in 1971 on Neil Bogart's pre-Casablanca label Kama Sutra. The follow-up, 1972's Hard Attack, sharpened the band's edge and intensified the power of their approach; thus, it became the more sought-after of the pair by collectors interested in the roots of American metal. However, Dust would record only those two albums; Aaronson joined Stories in 1973, and Wise and Kerner became a production team, also working with Stories; the following year, they would go on to helm the first two Kiss albums. Aaronson, meanwhile, became a prolific session bassist and Bell later became part of the New York punk scene, joining up with Richard Hell & the Voidoids and then moving on to the Ramones (adopting the name Marky Ramone). ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide

    Dust - Dust - 1971 (1994)

Product Description: CD reissue of the debut album from the American Rockers, a mixture of British-influenced Hard Rock and Prog. The album was originally released on the Kama Sutra label in 1971, introducing a group of young players to the world at large, most of whom would move on to bigger things. The rhythm section featured drummer Marc Bell, who would later join New York Punkers Richard Hell & The Voidoids, while bassist Kenny Aaronson would join labelmates Stories by their third album. The songwriting team of producer Kenny Kerner and singer/guitarist Richie Wise would go on to produce the third Stories album. Seven tracks. Repertoire. Just listen to this album once and you'll be stunned at how good it is. DUST is the 1971 debut for this visionary U.S. group. Visionary & stupendous you may ask? Drummer Mark Bell would soon change his name to Marky Ramone & help found the Ramones. Bassist Kenny Aaronson would later play with Neil & Jan in Schon, Hammer & Aaronson. He would also later guest on Blue Oyster Cult albums. And guitarist Richie Wise, along w/producer Kenny Kerner, would go on to produce the first two Kiss records. These guys had so much talent & ability that the world wasn't ready for them!.

Review: Just listen to this album once and you'll be stunned at how good it is. These guys had so much talent & ability that the world wasn't ready for them! This album is major league boot stompin'! 'Loose Goose' is an instrumental showcasing Aaronson's truly gifted bass playing. 'Love Me Hard' cranks; Richie Wise displays a smooth vocal delivery on 'L.M.H.' which is great, especially when so many metal vocalists either just shriek or shout all the way through an album. Wise uses his voice as a sort of counter-instrument throughout the record, so Dust's 3 man lineup gains some extra depth. 'Chasin' Ladies' and 'Stone Woman' are whiskey-drenched rockers. The magnificent ode to sex, 'From A Dry Camel', is a 7+ minute bombast displaying all 3 Dust-ians at the peak of their superlative skills. 'From A Dry Camel' made the list of Top Ten Heavy Metal songs EVER in the original ROCK BOOK OF LISTS, and you owe it to yourself to hear why. If someone told you that Kiss, and the Ramones shared similar origins, and that those 2 groups shared strong musical ties with Neil Schon, and BOC, you just might think they were nuts, and that such an idea is preposterous. However, it's the truth, and that truth is Dust - 3 extraordinarily talented musicians who meld their skills together tightly & fabulously in playing high energy music. And this is just their first record - HARD ATTACK, their second, is even better. ~ Amazon Customer
