    “Ascendant” means rising; it refers to the constellation on the eastern horizon at the time of one’s birth.

    I have taken this title for my 3rd CD because it seems to me that I experienced a musical rebirth when I came to the United States. My songs are like my own children whom I have carefully raised. My wish is that they will reach inside your heart and shine brightly there, like the sun rising from the eastern horizon. By Chiemi Nakai

    Chiemi's albums, the more I realized that Chiemi herself was the real hook for me. Not to ruffle any feathers, let me be clear, the all around musicianship on the recordings reviewed here is very good.
