The Moscow ensemble "Academy of Ancient Music" was founded in 1982 on the initiative of Tatiana Grindenko and Alexei Lu-bimov who since then have been its constant participants. The aim of this ensemble is authentic performance of the 17th - 18th - century music, meaning both the instruments and the performing manner. On their repertoire are works by J.S.Bach, Handel, Telemann, Vivaldi, C.P.E.Bach, Haydn, L.Mozart, W.A.Mozart, French, Austrian and English baroque composers and also Russian 18th - century music. The programme on this disc which is the ensemble's first has been presented in many cities of the USSR. The music is performed on Italian and French instruments of the 17th - 18th centuries, a harpsichord made by F. Ravdonikas (after the Flemish original of the 17th century). The pitch is 415 Hz. (about half a tone below the modern pitch). The "Facsimile" series contains recordings of musical works written in the 16th - early 19th centuries in their original sound. It concerns both the choice of instruments (old ones or their replicas), versions and performing devices of the epoch.
