Cactus Biography: Formed in 1969, the original Cactus comprised Rusty Day (b. Russell Edward Davidson, USA, d. 6 March 1982, USA; vocals), Jim McCarty (guitar, ex-Mitch Ryder an Buddy Miles' Express), and two former members of Vanilla Fudge, Tim Bogert (b. 27 August 1944, Ridgefield, New Jersey, USA; bass) and Carmine Appice (b. 15 December 1946, Staten Island, New York, USA; drums). Their exciting, uncompromising brand of hard rock was best displayed on their second album One Way … Or Another (1971), but internal disputes hampered their progress. Day and McCarty left to join Detroit in 1971, but although a reshaped line-up featuring Werner Fritzschings (guitar), Duane Hitchings (keyboards) and Peter French (vocals) completed the part live "Ot 'N' Sweaty, the initial rhythm section abandoned their creation to form Beck, Bogert And Appice. Hitchings then instigated the New Cactus Band with Mike Pinera (b. 29 September 1948, Tampa, Florida, USA; guitar, ex-Iron Butterfly), Roland Robinson (b. 1949, USA, d. 8 Nobember 2004, Memphis, Tennessee, USA; bass) and Jerry Norris (drums), but the group disintegrated in 1973.Track listing
Original vocalist Rusty Day revived the Cactus name in the late 70s for touring purposes, but his death from gunshot wounds in 1982 led to the unit's disbandment. Appice, Bogert and McCarty reunited over two decades later, with vocalist Jimmy Kunes, to record a new studio album.

Review by Scott Cokeley (Amazon.com): I own thousands of LPs, but this has always been a favorite. This LP was bashed by the critics, probably since it is NOT the original Cactus, ok, maybe they should have used a different name, (they evolved into Thee Image and cut 2 LPs under that name). This album DOES have Duane Hitchings (keyboards) who was on the last Cactus LP from 1972, "Ot & Sweaty", and the excellent work of guitarist Mike Pinera (of Blues Image and Iron Butterfly, Ramatam, Classic Rock All Stars), bassist Roland Robinson and Jerry Norris. Musically, it is a VERY STRONG and EXCELLENT LP. Not exactly like the original Cactus, but it certainly, without any doubt, stands on it's own, equally as great as any great LPs from the 70s. It shines throughout, and is one of Pinera's best LPs. Another lost LP, the self titled Steel, which is excellent, (if you can find a copy), from 2 years earlier, (Epic-1971), also has Hitchings, Robinson and Norris. Robinson was an overlooked bassist who passed on recently, who worked on these and LPs with Hendrix, Buddy Miles, Mar-keys, etc. Hitchings has worked with countless artists, Rod Stewart, Steve Perry, Buddy Miles, etc, and both him and Pinera worked and recorded w/ Alice Cooper. If you love 70s rock, you'll enjoy this. Thanks to the people who made this possible. A grossly under-rated classic!!!
