Our hero, Peirol d’Auvergne, inhabits a theatre of the imagination somewhere between the epic and the everyday, the real and the supernatural. It was during the summer of 2007, on the roads of Xinjiang and more especially in Kashgar, that we gave free rein to our own imaginations and finally decided to share the inner life of this troubadour over the next few months.
True to the SLAM BAROQUE dogma of the ensemble La Camera delle Lacrime, we assembled a team of musicians curious to try this experiment in renewing the repertory of the courtly lyric and surprising listeners with a ‘kaleidoscopic performance’ in which the codes of an aesthetic of today, of another time, or of another place help to make an old text, music, and dance newly comprehensible. Bruno Bonhoure gets his inspiration form today’s forms of poetry and music (slam baroque at 104 every month in paris, association with the videast Khaï-dong Luong, use of oriental instruments which Peirol probably knew) in order to underline the poetic power of Peirol’s ballads.
