    Label: Arista/BMG Victor Inc. (Japan) | Cat.# A32D-80 | Released: 1989-06-21 (1989-05-02)

"Barry Manilow" is the 6th self-titled album released by singer and songwriter Barry Manilow. The album was released in 1989, and reached Gold certification. This album also represented a hint of future album releases... 95% of the songs were not written/co-written by Manilow, which had until that point been rare. Manilow, known for being a composer, typically always stocked his albums with material he co-wrote with his celebrated lyricists. After the release of this album, the 1990s dawned and a new era in his career began as he embarked on introducing contemporary audiences to pop music of the 1930s through the late 1940s. This album is also one of his longest of original material, clocking in at nearly an hour. The hit singles from this album were: "Keep Each Other Warm", "The One That Got Away" and "Please Don't Be Scared".

Barry Manilow - Barry Manilow (1989) [Japan, 1st Press] *Repost*

By combining his deft skills as a tunesmith, an uncanny knack for catchy melodies, and a romantically appealing lyrical sensibility, Barry Manilow created a commercial package so effective that it ensured phenomenal success as an entertainer throughout the '70s, '80s, and '90s. This 1989 release finds Manilow in fine form, concentrating primarily on ballads swelling with dramatic arrangements (counting the number of ascending key changes from one end of the disc to the other is a fun game) and lyrics that concentrate on the trials and tribulations of relationships. The opener, "Please Don't Be Scared," is an direct appeal to a friend or lover for emotional honesty. Manilow uses his gift for melody and his plaintive voice to construct another of his signature heartstring-tugging gems. "Once And For All" is a tender ballad, while "The One That Got Away" adds programming and synthesizers to the up-tempo side of Barry's songwriting palette. Even dressed in more contemporary clothes, Manilow is still a romantic bard for the people, and this self-titled disc is up to his usual crowd-pleasing standards.
