    A native of Prague, Jean-Baptiste Krumpholtz discovered his passion for the harp at a young age and, encouraged by Haydn, became one of the most renowned harpists in Paris. His innovations in harp making improved the sound of the harp, and his compositions were highly regarded by his contemporaries and long after his tragic death. The six sonatas en forme de scène, recorded together here for the first time, follow the German empfindsamer style and use free form as a means for maximum expressive depth. They were admired by one commentator for their "deep sense of harmony and unexpected modulations."
