ATB is the alias of progressive house/trance DJ and producer André Tanneberger, a native of Freiberg, Germany, born in 1973. ATB's catchy, vocal-driven singles crossed over from clubs to mainstream pop radio, making him one of the most recognizable artists of trance's late-'90s/early-2000s commercial peak. He is best known for his first single, "9 PM (Till I Come)," a euphoric yet chilled-out progressive house instrumental featuring a smooth, distinctive guitar riff. This guitar sound became ATB's trademark, but his lengthy discography has incorporated elements of ambient, drum'n'bass, and rock. His popularity has continued, earning him rankings in numerous international DJ polls, and he has a particularly strong following in Poland, where several of his studio albums and mix CDs have gone gold or platinum.

Tanneberger started his career in the early '90s, forming Euro-house group Sequential One in 1993. The group was moderately successful in Europe, releasing three albums and over a dozen singles until their dissolution in 1999. In the wake of remixes for acts including the Outhere Brothers, Technotronic, and Haddaway, Tanneberger began using the name ATB for his original solo material. He scored a major hit with 1998's "9 PM (Till I Come)," which hit number one in the U.K. and went gold or platinum in a few other countries. Similar-sounding 1999 follow-up "Don't Stop" nearly duplicated the success, and full-length debut Movin' Melodies arrived later that same year. The album also featured the single "Killer," a remake of the Seal and Adamski hit, with Drew Williams on vocals. The song was another smash hit, and began ATB's successful run of vocal trance anthems.

At the end of October 2000, Tanneberger released his sophomore album, Two Worlds. For the album, ATB collaborated with Heather Nova, Enigma, and the Canadian rock band Wild Strawberries. The release was a double CD, the first consisting of more dancefloor-friendly tunes and the second featuring more downtempo/ambient tracks. Following a few more hit singles, third album Dedicated appeared in 2002, featuring a hit cover of Olive's "You're Not Alone." Fourth album Addicted to Music arrived in 2003, along with a DVD of the same name that collected his music videos to date along with a U.S. tour documentary, interviews, and other content. Toward the end of the year, he also released The DJ in the Mix, his first of many continuous mix CDs.

Fifth studio album No Silence was released in 2004, featuring another DVD in its bonus edition. The year 2005 brought ATB's first retrospective compilation, Seven Years: 1998-2005, which featured all of his hits from that period as well as six new songs. The 2007 album Trilogy contained two discs, the first being more pop/rock-leaning and the second more ambient. Future Memories followed in 2009, and also featured separate uptempo/downtempo discs, but this time the uptempo disc featured tracks with higher BPMs influenced by drum'n'bass. The 2011 release Distant Earth expanded the format, not only featuring pop-trance songs on the first disc and downtempo/ambient tracks (including an Armin van Buuren collaboration) on the second, but also a club-centric third disc with the album's bonus edition. The album was followed later in the year by the two-CD remix collection Distant Earth Remixed. Contact, ATB's ninth studio album, continued his tradition of two discs focusing on dance and chillout tracks, as well as a bonus version featuring a third disc of remixes. Contact peaked in the Top Ten of the German and Polish charts. ATB returned in 2017 with his tenth effort, Next.

Most notable for including the song "9 P.M. (Till I Come)," Movin' Melodies also features a few other hit songs such as "Killer 2000" and "Don't Stop" along with lots of forgettable filler. Throughout 1999, the year "9 P.M. (Till I Come)" became an international sensation, ATB remained a one-hit wonder. He had the one hit song but no album to accompany it. Then, late in 1999, approximately a year after "9 P.M. (Till I Come)" had spread across the world like wildfire, he delivered Movin' Melodies, his proper debut album. First of all, keep in mind that it's not easy to produce a satisfying album of strictly trance, even if it is trance of the dance-pop variety. Europe's top trance producer, Paul Van Dyk, had continually struggled to produced a satisfying album, and no one else had even come close with the possible exception of BT, but he did more than just produce trance songs. So, given that no one had ever produced a satisfying studio album of trance since the genre sprouted up in the early '90s, ATB didn't have much hope of creating a classic album, particularly since he was a relative newcomer to production. And indeed, he flounders here, somewhat confirming his one-hit wonder reputation. Granted, "9 P.M. (Till I Come)" is surely melodic, but the many other songs are mostly retreads, none of them especially novel. When taken as a whole, Movin' Melodies is a difficult listen, even for those with a weakness for the melodies of "9 P.M. (Till I Come)." By the time you make it halfway through the album, you feel exhausted from the relentless, steady tempo and continuous intensity, not to mention the countless buildups. Frankly, Movin' Melodies is overindulgent – too much for even those with a taste for "9 P.M. (Till I Come)." You're better off appreciating the hit single on its own.

Artists like Paul van Dyk, Chicane, and BT (when he's not harboring aspirations of rock stardom) piece together driving 4/4 beats, soaring vocals, and swirling sounds to create moods perfect for a crowded dancefloor or a solitary daydream. One might also consider adding German-born DJ/producer/artist Andre Tanneberger, better known as ATB, to this elite list. ATB's second release, the double album Two Worlds, is a musical journey striving to match van Dyk's Out There and Back, Chicane's Behind the Sun, and BT's ESCM. The trip is divided into two legs, "The World of Movement" (CD1) and "The Relaxing World" (CD2), neither of which wholly impresses or disappoints. On the first leg, ATB builds from the aching beauty of "Love Will Find You" and "Feel You Like a River," both featuring vocals from Heather Nova, to the all-out dancefloor assault of "Bring It Back" and "Klangwelt." "The Summer" and "The Fields of Love," his best work here, meld these two extremes, fashioning moody yet danceable vibes from simple keyboard phrases and his signature guitar-string bends. The second leg is a mellower and less exciting affair that, when experienced after its counterpart, has a pleasantly calming effect. "First Love" and "Timeless" sparkle in comparison with the suspect ATB/Enigma collaboration "Enigmatic Encounters" and the ill-advised Caribbean love theme "Engrossing Moments." Disc two also includes chilled-out remixes of "The Summer" and "Feel You Like a River" (this time entitled "Feel You"). Despite variations, ATB has a habit of stretching ideas beyond their usefulness. As singles, songs with drawn-out themes give club DJs more options. As album tracks, they can test a listener's resolve. He also uses a fairly limited range of sounds, all of which appear often and wear a bit thin by album's end. Confining Two Worlds to one disc of its best moments would make for a stellar album. As it stands, ATB needs a discerning producer to help him pare down the excess.

In grand pop fashion, ATB's first two albums featured a few hit singles and lots of forgettable filler, and though his third album, Dedicated, is an improvement, it's still driven by two or three great songs and lots of filler. The album's best moments feature vocalist Roberta Carter Harrison, a Canadian vocalist who perhaps unsurprisingly sounds quite a bit like Sarah McLachlan (another trance-pop star). In particular, "You're Not Alone" and "Hold You" stand out, both coming early in the album and propelled by gaudy synth melodies. Elsewhere, ATB stretches out a bit, trying to incorporate different styles of songwriting (some breaks, house, and ambient here and there) as he had attempted to do on Two Worlds. So even though most of the songs are still little more than dull filler, ATB does show a bit of promise here, certainly more than he did on his previous albums. Still, he's second-rate at best as a producer, able to effectively craft catchy trance-pop but little else. As with ATB's previous albums, it's best to appreciate Dedicated's singles as singles and not bother with the album itself.

No Silence is the fifth studio album released by German DJ and producer, ATB. It was released in 2004 and includes hits such as "Marrakech", "Ecstasy" and "Here with Me" (all featuring vocals by Tiff Lacey). These three songs were released as singles, with promotional videos for the first two. The first two singles were released from the album No Silence, while "Here With Me" was released from The DJ 2 in the Mix, ATB's second DJ mix compilation. The song "Marrakech" was used in the Mindhunters film. There is also a special edition album version, which includes a bonus DVD with remixes and videos.[1][2][3] Unlike his other album releases, ATB used a cross fade effect on each song as a transition to the next song on the album with dream-like sequences and sounds of nature…

Still best known for his 1999 number one smash "9 PM (Till I Come)," Andre Tanneburger, aka ATB, returns with Trilogy, his first release since 2005's Seven Years retrospective. Featuring contributions from Bermudian singer/songwriter Heather Nova, Jan Löchel, and Karen Ires, it's a two-disc album, with one half devoted to his trademark progressive trance and the other to Chicane-style chillout electronica. Released in 2007, ATB's sixth studio album features the singles "Renegade," "Feel Alive," and "Desperate Religion."

The seventh studio album from influential dance producer ATB, Future Memories is perhaps his most experimental effort to date, adding a harder-edged drum'n'bass sound to his trademark progressive trance. Like his previous double LP Trilogy, its first disc is packed with uptempo floor-fillers, while the second disc focuses on more ambient downtempo tracks. This 2009 release features vocal contributions from Josh Gallahan, Haley Gibby, and Betsie Larkin, and includes a cover of Everything But the Girl's "Missing" alongside singles "What About Us," "L.A. Nights," and "Behind."
