Les maliens Djénéba & Fousco sont unis dans la vie comme sur la scène.
Ils représentent l’Afrique d’aujourd’hui, urbaine, entre son attachement à son histoire et sa furieuse envie de croire en l’avenir.
Loin des clichés habituels sur les musiques africaines, Djénéba & Fousco sont branchés sur l’Afrique électrique, transformant allégrement des mélodies inspirées de la tradition griotique malienne en chansons aux gimmicks terriblement actuels.
Djénéba est l’une des voix les plus fascinantes du Mali d’aujourd’hui. Ce visage juvénile masque à peine son impressionnante maîtrise de la science des Djelis, les Kouyaté, descendus tout droit de Balla Fasséké Kouyaté, 1er griot de l’empereur Soundiata Keita.
Son art de l’improvisation et de la louange a charmé le Mali lors du fameux télé crochet national «Tounkagouna» qu’elle remporta haut la main en 2010 et continue de séduire un public de plus en plus large.
Fousco, guitare à la main, rejoint la lignée des grands faiseurs de chansons de la région de Kayes tel Habib Koïté ou Boubacar Traoré. A l’ombre de ces géants, il a rencontré Djénéba après lui avoir succédé au palmarès de «Tounkagouna» en 2011.
Avec sa voix affirmée au timbre mandingue assumé, Fousco sait déjà conjuguer dans ses compositions, douceur et blues, mélodie et groove.
Autant à l’aise pour raconter la place de l’amour dans la nouvelle jeunesse africaine que pour évoquer les douleurs des aventuriers (les «Tunkarankés», les migrants), le nouveau couple des musiques maliennes clame haut et fort dans ce premier album les envies de fête et d‘avenir de la jeunesse bamakoise aussi bien que la nostalgie du berceau kayésien qu’il a fallu quitter pour trouver du travail.
