This fabulous collaborative musical project features the legendary magus David Chaim Smith reading selections from his mystical text The Awakening Ground along with the magical creator of Dark Ambient music Bill Laswell on bass and drones, and John Zorn on shofar and alto saxophone. Evocative and meditative, this is a rare and unique project that synthesizes Kabbalah, Mysticism and the hypnotic swirls of Dark Ambient music.

"The Dream Membrane" is an eerie piece of ambient music highlighting the poetry and artwork created by David Chaim Smith. The music is full of texture, feeling, and resonant tones created by Bill Laswell on base and John Zorn on sax and shofar. Mr. Smith also provides the spoken word, which weaves in and out of the music, very much like an ornate tapestry. The sound-atmosphere is otherworldly, full of ethereal mysterious tones and resounding echoes. The listener is taken on a dark journey between death and rebirth – a dream world. This in-between place is sometimes frightening and the provocative words can sound menacing and other times there is a mysterious dark beauty and one can't resist but move further into it this inscrutable landscape. "The Dream Membrane" is a unique and extraordinary blending of elements that have never been put together before: ambient drone, free jazz horns, and occult invocation. All three participants of "The Dream Membrane" are consummate masters of their field. The momentous occasion of their coming together alone is worth buying the CD. The music is profoundly evocative and powerful with qualities unlike anything I've ever heard.
