A fantastic collection of songs curated by Victor Gama, with an edgy booklet designed by Joerg Hartmannsgruber, showcasing an array of performers from beyond the bubble of Western perception.

One of my personal faves from the guys and gals at Sonic Arts Network, who describe themselves as "a UK based organisation that promotes and explores the art of sound through a programme of performances, commissions, education projects and releases. Sonic Arts Network believes in the unique capacity of listening to enrich people's lives"


Victor explains:
"… the west has created a bubble that acts mainly as a protective shield, whilst absorbing from the rest of the world what it can transform into commodities. The current political, economic and cultural globalisation process uses a cocktail of well-oiled tools such as military might, financial power, religious fundamentalism through evangelisation and more recently, the music and image industries, that enforce a childhood mentality on vast audiences worldwide. The very idea of development is framed by the western geopolitical imagination that seeks to subordinate, contain and assimilate the third world as Other. Such western imagination is a violation of the rights of other societies"


"[this CD] is a rare opportunity to listen beyond this bubble, and represents the dwindling number of channels of real communication available. I've chosen a few composers from certain "threatening" zones of silence. People who are, or have been, in that situation of "us and them" where they are "them": at the epicentre of a clash that is played out with the fire and destruction created through an array of advanced weaponry"
