Australian music director Chris Harriot originated this extraordinary project, "an attempt to capture every facet of the greatest song ever written." The results join the ranks of the Rutles' albums and Rhino's Rerun Rock as one of the funniest records ever made, as a multitude of down-under performers, from Kate Ceberano and the Ministry of Fun (doing a funk version) to swing revival group Pardon Me Boys, the Beatnix, the Sydney Philharmonia, and the Australian Doors Show – which treats the song like "When The Music's Over"– try their hands at the Zeppelin classic. The results are as funny as they are entertaining, and the notes are a real kick as well, explaining why the likes of Peter Gabriel and Guns & Roses failed to make the cut on the album. The funniest "tribute" record of the 1990s, and the only thing keeping this from the highest rating of all is the absence of Little Roger & The Goosebumps' "Stairway (Gilligan's Island)," the record that started it all. allmusicguide
