For scientists, the Moon is the only natural satellite of the Earth is like with a diameter of 3476 km and an apparent magnitude of -12.74. For Leidenschaftler he is a poetic companion at night, which directs the feelings and tide with his regular waxing and waning. "The Moon On My Doorstep", the new, now sixth album of singer-songwriter Ulita Knaus, this dream-moon brings us closer than ever. It's their personal work, enormously generous and of immense size. With their intimate jazz songs brings us Ulita Knaus not only the stars from the sky, but like the whole moon. Here, the "new hope of Jazz" (FAZ) is more international than ever: Own English songs shine next reduced to the essence interpretations of Pink Floyd, Tom Waits or Peter Fox. There is a reduction, the audience focused on the textual content, so is committed to serving its profound songs. The basis for preparing an all-star band with pianist Tino Derado, guitarist Roland Cabezas, and two-thirds of the Julian Lage Trio: bassist Jorge Roeder and percussionist Tupac Mantilla. Warmer than ever Ulita Knaus sings to the music of life and love, of large and small fortunes, of the power of the no-agent and the dignified laziness. It quickly becomes clear: "The Moon On My Doorstep" is more enjoyment as a must - and not just for epileptics.
Already the opener "Clap Hands" it is obvious how comfortable Ulita Knaus feels in their universal role - as a singer, songwriter and producer. The rhythm starts softly and gently, and a good half minute before use guitar, bass and piano, you can hear only intrikates tissue percussion and vocals. The perfect introduction because it draws attention and shows how much momentum and force in this warm, serene vocals infected - and as you can hear this new anti-war song now, the Tom Waits first time in 1985 for his album "Rain Dogs" recorded. There is a statement in other ways, for "The Moon On My Doorstep" consists mainly of own songs, about the social study "Slice Of Everyday", the fabulously thrilling increases right after - a decent everyday observation in this anthemic chorus. The "Accordion Player" is ostensibly a song about just such a street musician whose music Ulita Knaus accompanied on purchases in their native Hamburg Altona district for years. (. He died shortly after these recordings, which is why he dedicated the piece) In addition, it is also about the big, small topics: life, survival, outside and inside, the light and its dark sides. "She Says No" is self-explanatory, even for Yes Man, doing a stunning duet - here are these wonderful voice and the crazy body percussion by Tupac Mantilla in the center. Another sample of this duo is the floating dreamlike ballad "Two Snowflakes", plays the marimba Mantilla. Similarly intense sounds the attachment for singing bass Jorge Roeder, who is clearly in duets such as the music industry farce "Have A Cigar" by Pink Floyd or the wonderful "Iceland". Indeed swings this groovy sense of community in all of the album with, even with just "I stone you stone", originally by Peter Fox, or in the rapid originals "Me Or You" and "Perfectly Lazy". The unifying energy that makes these eleven different pieces so a real, very cohesive and gorgeous flowing album, proceeds from the leader. Your best mature voice, with painfully beautiful corners and edges, is in any position of the same woman. Quite naturally, they allowed themselves to use jazz as a means to model the songs so that they fit in with their singing, their expression. Mark Twain is quoted as saying: "Everyone is like a moon: he has a dark side which he shows to anyone." Ulita Knaus hiding the blues in her soul in any musical moment, rather they will shine. This is also why "The Moon On My Doorstep" so special - and so very beautiful.
