I guess I don't need to introduce this legendary Indian Mandolin Player called 'U. Shrinivas' who had single handily rose the fame to Mandolin Instrument among the Indian Classical instruments. IMO, Mandolin never would have got so much attention among the Indian music followers without the efforts of this great musician. Sadly, this great musician passed away on 19th September 2014, just at the age of 45 due to the complications arose in his liver transplantation.
Well, Coming to this particular album, He played 'Raga Varunapriya', which is an odd to Rain God in Carnatic 'Ragam, Thanam, Pallavi' Style which clocks nearly 51 minutes. The album starts with 'Ragam and Tanam' of 'Raga Varunapriya' which is introduction of this raga by this master without percussion accompaniment which is little over 20 minutes. Then, composition part i.e. Pallavi starts with beautiful percussion accompaniment by V. Praveen on Mridangam & Sri Sundara Kumar on Kanjira. And the album rounds off with two short, yet fantastic music pieces. IMO, this album is a masterpiece and half. Very Recommended. Enjoy.
