    Tales of gun fights, bank heists and barrooms meet hot licks and harmonies as Tom rounds up a posse of players to interpret a dirty dozen of his Americana-inspired songs, bursting with mirth and menace.
    Tom Parkes is the singer-songwriter who has audiences crying in their beer one minute and in fits of laughter the next.
    He draws inspiration from performers including Johnny Cash and Jake Thackray to craft compositions that revel in America's musical heritage and are crammed with dry, English wit.
    Songs such as Alfredo (When It All Goes Wrong), about a loyal friend reluctantly agreeing to take part in a bank heist, show Tom's talent for taking a heartfelt, crooning ballad into hilarious new territory.
    But on the likes of The Big Guns he deploys his lyrical wizardry to create a far more poignant effect.
    Tom, whose admirers include BBC Radio's Steve Lamacq, needs nothing more than his guitar and powerful voice to bring a crowd under his spell.
    But on his new album Stranger In Town he explores the full melodic potential of 12 of his best songs with the help of his old friend Jake Murrells (dobro) and his cousin Jamie Parkes (fiddle).
