To mark their 30th anniversary The Wonder Stuff release their eighth studio album, '30 Goes Around The Sun', on March 19th 2016 - thirty years to the day since the band first walked into a rehearsal studio in the heart of The Black Country in 1986. The band chose to revisit it's old stomping ground of Stourbridge to record the album and even managed to persuade renowned heavy metal and hard rock producer, Simon Efemey (Paradise Lost/Napalm Death/The Wildhearts), to return to his home town to produce the record.

To be honest, I hadn't been really impressed by a WS album since Never Loved Elvis from 1991. That effort along with Eight Legged Groove Machine & HUP turned me into a huge fan. This new effort seems to capture everything that attracted me to their unique & amazing music. I imagine since you're here that you're somewhat familiar with The Wonder Stuff but I'll try to summarize my impression of their sound: English pop + sardonic lyrics + chunky guitar licks + smooth acoustic chords + really fantastic violin inserts. The last ingredient is one of my absolute favorites. The violin pieces on this album really make each track stand out and almost provide an additional lyricist, if you will. It's a more classical sound on 30GAtS than the folksy sound of the past and I completely dig it.
At the very least, this collection of songs released on the other side of the marble helps this mid-40's guy do a couple laps around the lake a lot easier.
