A 21 tracks album recorded live at Portsmouth's Wedgewood Rooms on the 16th July during their 2002 tour; featuring the hit singles 'Nights in White Satin', 'Paranoid', 'Gigantor' and the Top Ten hit 'Banana Splits [The Tra La La Song]'. Guest appearance by Olga from Toy Dolls.

The Dickies went down the route of Punk Jesters a long time ago and the opening track on this live set shows that the world lost out on a great punk band with their seminal ‘Solitary Confinement’ showing where the influence of Green Day and Sum41 can be found.

They get back into more familiar groove with their versions of ‘Nights In White Satin’, ‘Paranoid’ ‘Nellie The Elephant (featuring Olga Toy Doll) and the Banana Splits theme (Tra La La Song)’ and in between they deliver furious versions of sub-Ramones songs, high on the idiot factor – ‘I’ve Got A Splitting Headache’ is classic Dickies!

This was recorded during their 2002 tour and I cannot work out why it has taken so long to release but anyone who likes furious 2 chord rock that has a vocal like a chipmunk on speed and songs with a ‘humorous’ side (and who doesn't!?) should defiantly pick this one up!

    ~ Andy S.

The Dickies will mostly be remembered for quirky punk/pop songs delivered at pace. Crazy cover versions of rock and roll classics - Black Sabbaths ‘Paranoid’, The Moody Blues ‘Nights in White Satin’ and Barry McGuire’s ‘Eve of Destruction’ among many. And coloured vinyl LP’s and singles. What people may not know is that they’ve been together since 1977 and sometimes opened for The Ramones. Their biggest hit in the UK was ‘Banana Split (the tra la la song)’ which charted at number 7. Their distinctive style and performance was often branded ‘pantomime punk’ by critics.

This album, recorded live in 2002 at The Wedgewood Rooms, England, is classic Dickies eccentricity. All the expected songs are here - including the brilliant ‘Poodle Party’ and ‘Solitary Confinement’. It’ll be no coincidence that Olga (The Toy Dolls frontman) is on bass/vocals as his band are probably the closest living resembles to The Dickies. We even get a version of their biggest hit ‘Nellie the Elephant’ (though I’m sure its b-side Fisticuffs in Frederick Street is what generated the sales)

I doubt this album will bring The Dickies any new admirers, but that’s not likely to be the aim anyway. After almost 30 years together I’d assume the fan base has been in place for some time now and this is a great record for them to enjoy.
