Screeching Weasel/Born Against split is a split EP featuring Screeching Weasel and Born Against. It was released in 1993 on 7" vinyl by Lookout! Records. The premise of this record is that Born Against wrote music for lyrics written by Screeching Weasel and vice-versa. The double-sided cover art plays on their different styles, political hardcore and pop punk, as well. Screeching Weasel is an American punk band from Chicago, Illinois. They were formed in 1986 by Ben Weasel and John Jughead. The band gained prominence in the early 1990s after signing a record deal with the East Bay punk label, Lookout! Records. Since the band's formation, Weasel has been its only constant member, though Jughead was present in every incarnation of the band until 2009. The next most prominent members in the band have been Danny Vapid on guitar and bass and Dan Panic on drums. However, the band has been through many line-up changes and at times included such notable musicians as Mike Dirnt and Mass Giorgini.
Born Against was an American hardcore punk band from New York active between 1989–1993. In addition to their radical leftist politics, the group espoused a DIY punk message and challenged what they perceived as problematic within the underground hardcore punk community of their time. The group was founded in early 1989 by guitarist Adam Nathanson and bassist Neil Burke (both formerly of the New York hardcore band Life's Blood), vocalist Sam McPheeters, and drummer John Guzman, who was replaced in early rehearsals by a drummer named George. George's tenure was also brief, and he was replaced after a single show by drummer Nigel Schreiber in July 1989. This lineup recorded a demo cassette and a track for the Murderers Among Us 7" compilation released on McPheeters' Vermiform Records label before Burke and Schreiber left the group in the fall. Born Against would continue to be plagued by rhythm section fluctuation throughout its career.
