Expanded Deluxe Edition of the veteran punk band's excellent 2004 album now including six previously unreleased live tracks recorded at Barrowlands, Glasgow in 2006. While Jake Burns remains the only original member of SLF, "Guitar & Drum" includes long-serving bassist Bruce Foxton (formerly of The Jam), who remained an SLF member for over 15 years before leaving the band after their tour for this album. The album itself is filled with classic punk-edged guitar pop/rock and includes new classics like 'Strummerville', 'Still Burning' and the title track.

Bruce Foxton’s last album with SLF continued much in the vein of 1999’s Tinderbox: tuneful, jaunty, often political punk. This era of the Jake Burns-led outfit reflects the group growing older, the world around them continuing to bemuse with its sometimes horrible ways.

There’s still a belief in the same kind of inspirations as ever. Guitar & Drum puts its fiery faith in the sound of a good ol’ six-string, rather than the X Factor kiddy pop that irritates the band so much, while Strummerville is Burns’ take on the inspiration gained by the recently-lost Joe Strummer. Can’t Get Away With That, meanwhile, showcases guitarist/vocalist Ian McCallum and his very Feargal Sharkeyesque singing style.

The additions include five tracks recorded on 17 March 2006, by which time Foxton had been replaced by Ali McMordie of the “classic” era line-up. The excitement in the crowd at McMordie’s return is palpable and the vitality within the band remains impressive. They’ll never really grow old; there’s enough power in the guitar and drums to take care of that, and this is decent barroom knockabout stuff. It’s going to have to make do for fans, until Burns finally decides what he’s doing with his currently back-burner new material.

Best yet? Yes, I think so!

Probably the best SLF album out there, it is great to see that SLF remain committed to the style of music that I grew up with in the 1970's and 1980's.

Best track: Cant get away with that!
Best feature: 5 superb bonus tracks!
Overall excellent and well worth your money

The album starts with the bruising rocky Guitar and Drum with such a catchy chorus and then moves into Strummerville and then glides onto the best track on the album: Cant get away with that! Green Day fans be aware that this is so much better than the Americans' offerings!
Walking dynamite and Dead man walking lead on to the rest of the (superb) album.

Overall there are 1 or 2 tracks that would be perhaps 8/10 but WOW otherwise this album hits all the right places.

The lyrics (when you can decipher them) are incisive and actually mean something…(hint here Jake) please add the Lyrics to the sleeve of the CD and we can sing along! BUY THIS ALBUM, you wont regret it.
