Re-mastered for reissue by Mass Giorgini at Sonic Iguana, 2005

Released in 1995, Kill the Musicians was meant to serve as a "cleaning up" of loose ends after Screeching Weasel's breakup in 1994. The compilation collects demos, b-sides, vinyl-only EPs, and other various odds and ends the band had accumulated in their career from 1989 to 1994. It came on the heels of 1994's How to Make Enemies and Irritate People, which itself was a collection of the final songs the band had written prior to splitting up. The band would soon reform in 1996 and remain together again until 2000, when they disbanded again. This collection was out of print for a short period until it was remastered and rereleased by Asian Man Records in 2005.

Here is the final edition of the Screeching Weasel re-releases. Originally released in January 1995, this album includes all of the rare 7inches, split EPs, and various compilation tracks, now collected on one CD for your convenience and pleasure. With 31 great songs, rare photos and new liner notes, this is destined to become a collector's item. All the badly recorded b-sides, quickly forgotten EP's, half-written compilation tracks and ill-advised covers you could ever want from the SW crew - here it is…

Screeching Weasel - Kill The Musicians (1995) [Remastered 2005] RESTORED

I've always been a fan of the rarities records. Not only as a listener, but as a record label getting to put them out. I wish I could have been involved with this Weasel record from the very start, but somehow I've been blessed with the chance to re-release this amazing collection of songs ten years later. What we have here is a collection of songs recorded from 1989 to 1995… This album is an incredible journey through different SW lineups in different recording studios. You can hear the range of sounds that the band tried out at different periods of time. This one CD offers a huge variety of songs from the classic "Punkhouse" EP to live recordings from their last US tour. I know it would have been nice to have the original CDs in your record collection, but that's what eBay is for isn't it? Well, for those not willing to dish out the big bucks, I hope you enjoy and appreciate the greatness of this album. Peace.

A pretty handy release that covers all the unreleased and hard to find material from this influential Ramones-esque pop-punk band. But considering that a majority of these tracks were recorded between 1989 through 1995 at various studios, the sound quality and style blatantly vary. For example, the first several tracks of Kill the Musicians document Screeching Weasel before their first break-up, featuring a more aggressive, skate-punk sound somewhat lacking in production. Not to the point that the songs are unlistenable; they just don't compare to the clear recordings and snotty pop-punk the band is known for. That side of Screeching Weasel can be found on the later tracks, along with some live recordings taken from their last American tour. But regardless of what this band's most appealing era is, Kill the Musicians would be the compilation needed to help fulfill one's goal of owning everything Screeching Weasel has ever put out. Besides, their classic Punkhouse EP is included here, which alone makes it worth the purchase of this record.
