Fans of the trip-hop group Olive will no doubt be interested in sampling lead singer Ruth Ann's solo debut. Produced by Enigma's Michael Cretu, What About Us is a pleasant, but unremarkable downtempo pop record where most of the tracks blur together in a pseudo-New Age gauze. Cretu's safe and samey production hampers this collection, but there are still a number of highlights, including the title track, a cover of the Cars' "Drive" and "More than Ordinary," a beat-driven track that hints at the kind of record What About Us could have been if it took more risks.
