Reale Accademia Di Musica - Angeli Mutanti (2018)

Over the years, several records have been released, inappropriately using the name of Reale Accademia di Musica. Finally, the authentic Reale Accademia di Musica have published their new album, Mutant Angels. September 2014, marks a key moment that led the relaunch of this historic name from Italy’s Progressive Rock scene. The journalist Guido Bellachioma invited Pericle Sponzilli, who was one of the founding members and the guitarist for Reale Accademia di Musica – as well as being the songwriter on its historic 1972 album – to perform at his music festival, the Progressivamente Free Festival. Pericle played with his old friends the Fholks and old names such as I’Uovo di Colombo, the Raccomandata con Ricevuta di Ritorno and the Saint Just.

After the Progressivamente Free Festival had finished, Pericle began to inch closer to this scene, a scene he had not be part of for some time. He began writing new music, ideal for a band, and a progressive one at that – not so much for of its canons, which are already part of the genre, but because, above all, it was progressive in thought!
The Reale Accademia di Musica began life in 1971 when Pericle played various songs that he had just written to Federico Troiani. Federico was excited and immediately set to work with the Fholks. At that time, the Fholks were a cover band, but this music spurred them on to become one of Italy’s most historic progressive bands.
Federico Troiani is no longer with us, but Pericle Sponzill’s riffs and melodies similarly excited and engaged Fabio Liberatori. Fabio and Pericle were old companions in the adventure that was the rock opera The Poliedro di Leonardo and creativity real does fly high when these two musicians work together. When playing their instruments, they are true style-gurus, soaring without constraints, free to go where their hearts take them.
The expressive voice of Erika Savastani from Deserto Rosso, who sang the cover version of Ognuno Sa on the album Progresso, and the refined rhythms of Andy Bartolucci and Fabio Fraschini come together and permit a harmonic squaring of the circle.

The group works like an atelier, a school, an academy. There is a merging of styles and individual skills and experiences. Friendship and mutual esteem are strengthened. This is an academy in the true sense of the term. An entirely ‘real’ Real Academy of Music”!

In the 45 years that have passed since the publication of that historic Album in 1972, February 2018 sees a new chapter begin for the mythical Reale Accademia di Musica with the release of their new album, Mutant Angels, on CD and vinyl!
