Václav Snítil is professor of violin at Prague's Academy of Performing Arts. Mr. Snítil is a recognized master of the art of violin playing and musical interpretation. He is also a supreme chamber musician as well as a widely sought-after pedagogue. In addition, Mr. Snítil has a distinguished collection of LP and CD recordings to his name. A young Václav's artistic credo was shaped in a versatile educational background under the influences of major Czech pedagogues. Beginning in 1943, Jaroslav Kocian (disciple of Otakar Ševčík) was a teacher of Mr. Snítil. Young Václav, was also initiated into the realm of music composition by Vítězslav Novák. Mr. Snítil studied pedagogy at Charles University and later concluded his education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in the class of Professor Jaroslav Pekelský, where he graduated with honors.
During Prague's Spring Festivals, Mr. Snítil has presented violin concertos with major orchestras under the baton of conductors such as Zubin Mehta, G. Pretre, Václav Neumann, and Alois Klíma. Together with Josef Suk, Mr. Snítil has performed Mozart's Concertone for two violins, and with Henryk Szeryng, Vivaldi's Concerto Grosso. In Weimar, he collaborated with the Staatskapelle and Kurt Masur. Mr. Snítil has achieved significant landmarks in the area of chamber music. He is a founding member of the Vlach Quartet, the Ars Rediviva and the Smetana Trio. From 1975 until 1988, Mr. Snítil was the artistic leader of the Czech Nonet, a chamber ensemble of the Czech Philharmonic.
