    Tommy Banks made his jazz-playing debut in 1950 in the touring band of saxophonist Don (D. T.) Thompson. Since then, he's played jazz throughout North America, Western and Central Europe, Japan, and Southeast Asia. In 1983 his quintet became the first jazz band to tour in continental China since the 1949 revolution.He has appeared with such luminaries as Clifford Jordan, Sonny Stitt, John Handy, Zoot Sims, Mark Murphy, Anita O'Day, Nat Adderly, Al Cohn, Pepper Adams, Joe Williams, Art Farmer, and many other greats, in clubs, concert halls, and on radio and television. He is the recipient of the Juno Award, the Gemini Award, and the Grand Prix du Disques Canada, and is a member of the Alberta Order of Excellence and an Officer of the Order of Canada. Born in Calgary, Alberta, P.J. has become recognised by critics, colleagues, and listeners as being one of North America's premier saxophonists. While residing in Vancouver, Toronto, New York and Edmonton, he has shared the stage with countless jazz greats such as Dizzy Gillespie, Woody Shaw, Michel Legrand, Pepper Adams, Kenny Wheeler, Tom Harrell, The Boss Brass etc. P.J. has also performed with the Edmonton Symphony, Calgary Philharmonic, Alberta Pops Orchestra, Hamilton Philharmonic, the Montreal Symphony, Kitchener-Waterloo, and the Vancouver Island symphony. The Jazz Report magazine has also honored him for 7 years straight as the critics' choice for Best Alto Saxophonist.
