In Rossini’s year Concerto Classics is pleased to announce a multi-year agreement with one of the most prestigious European orchestral groupings: the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana (OSI), conducted by Markus Poschner and accompanied from time to time by important soloists, is committed, from year 2018 until the whole of year 2020, to the exploration and production of a considerable part of Rossini’s repertoire that is still unedited or that has been rarely performed. The OSI has been making their presence felt on the European music scene with performances that are both innovative and persuasive. The OSI has two main performing venues: one at the Sala Teatro LAC, where it is resident orchestra and performs with leading international artists; the other at the Auditorio Stelio Molo RSI in Lugano, which provides a performing space for different kinds of musicians with distinctive repertoires. Also of importance are the orchestra’s opera and dance co-productions with Italian Switzerland’s principal musical institutions and with international partners, as well as it’s ever more frequent tours and appearances at festivals. This first volume presents first world recordings of some of the young composer’s symphonies and operatic arias.

Gratitude (1821), a pastoral cantata of the Neapolitan period of Rossini, is here available in its world premiere recording. One year after the publication of the first volume dedicated to the Rossini’s youth period (already nominated for the next ICMA), Markus Poschner and l’Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana enter the composer's Pesaro Neapolitan years, to rediscover rare and unpublished works . The score of the Gratitude, composed of seven large numbers, was appreciated for virtuosity (the air of Fileno represents one of the vertices of the difficult Rossinian tenor writing) and for the ability to harmonize exclusively instrumental, choral and solo moments. The Cantata was reworked for numerous other circumstances: the Cantata Il vero homage (1822) and the Cantata with four voices with choirs (1823) are offered two pieces in the first recording. The performers are Edgardo Rocha (in the role of Fileno) tenor, Michela Antenucci (Argene) soprano, Laura Polverelli (Melania) mezzosoprano and Mirco Palazzi (Elpino) bass. The choral parts are entrusted to the Swiss Radio and Television Choir. Opening and closing the album are the Symphonies by Ermione (1819) and by Elizabeth, Queen of England (1815).
