Arrangements by Johann Nepomuk Wendt (1782) & Andreas Tarkmann (1991)
Operatic music arranged for wind ensemble were already popular in Mozart's time. In these arrangements the highlights of the opera relived in short 2 to 3 minute pieces. For this recording, Johann Nepomuk Wendt's arrangements from 1782 were revised by the Linos Ensemble together with present day composer Andreas Tarkmann. The result is an updated sound image that is nevertheless based on an Mozartian tradition.
Johann Nepomuk Wendt, by the way, was an oboist in the 'kaiserlich-königliche Harmonie', the wind ensemble instituted by Emperor Joseph II and amongst whose members also ranked Mozart's good friend Anton Stadler, clarinetist.
