Max Frankl - Home (2012)

Thirty year old guitarist Max Frankl recently won best national guitarist in Germany's 2012 Echo Jazz Awards. A former student of Kurt Rosenwinkel and Wolfgang Muthspiel, it's a measure of his progress that he was asked by the latter to this record this, his debut CD, for Material Records. Featuring ten original compositions, Home, is an avowal to that which is musically important to Frankl and mixes lyricism with empathetic musical interplay. Five of Europe's most distinguished jazz musicians join the guitarist on the album including Nils Wogram, one of the most active and versatile trombonists performing today. Also featured is Dominic Landolf, whose reputation as a very fine saxophonist and clarinetist has long extended beyond the borders of his Swiss homeland, and pianist Pablo Held, a former member of the WDR Big Band. The rhythm section is made up of bassist Matthias Pichler, a sometime colleague of Wolfgang Muthspiel, and drummer Silvio Morger an integral part of the German jazz scene.
