Mark Mothersbaugh - Thor: Ragnarok (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) (2017)

This will not be Mothersbaugh’s first time composing a film, but will certainly be the biggest one he has done. He has been composing since 1987 and has credits on films such as Happy Gilmore, 21 Jump Street, The LEGO Movie, and Pitch Perfect 2. Similarly to Waititi being the third director in the Thor franchise, Mothersbaugh will be the third composer, following in the footsteps of Patrick Doyle and Brian Tyler.

Marvel movies have so far had a few great singular tracks, but outside of Alan Silvestri’s The Avengers score, they do not have that standout song that most other major franchises have. Who knows, maybe Mothersbaugh can bring an iconic score and style to Thor: Ragnarok that capitalizes on the cosmic road trip being promised. He has the material to do just that, now we just have to wait for over a year to find out whether or not it happens.
