This is a prime example of Van Nevel's habit of resurrecting composers almost entirely neglected on records. He shows us that the composers are well worth hearing. The Mass is broken up in its flow by the insertion of shorter pieces. One of the Latin motets uses a text from Proverbs 6:6-10 that has no liturgical use. It seems as though the composer set it to music for his own amusement. For he was truly an eccentric, a quality that seems to appeal to Van Nevel as much as it has doomed the composer to oblivion.
