Maria Ana Bobone sang on Luz Destino, a somewhat revolutionary album which presented Fado in a way never before heard: baroque style. Additionally, there are some exceptional, original pieces by both Ricardo and João Paulo. Luz Destino is a unique project developed by composer/keyboard player João Paulo and portuguese guitar player Ricardo Rocha.
Album was recorded in one of Lisbon's most amazing and beautiful grand Gothic Cathedrals. Catholic Church authorities requested that the location not be revealed and hence is not specified on the cover or liner notes. MA Recordings is the only recording company to ever use this historical Cathedral for any recording projects!
This album is one of the audiophile gems of MA Recordings, trans-cultural jazz and classical label. MA Recordings was founded in Japan in 1988 and its catalogue reflects the truly world-folk aspirations of its engineer, producer and designer, Todd Garfinkle. Garfinkle has taken his custom built recording equipment to all corners of the globe, seeking to record music performed in unique acoustically interesting spaces, whose sonic footprint leaves as much a trace on MA Recordings as the individual artists represented. MA Recordings philosophy is to promote the quality of sound, the importance of solitary sounds, their musicality and diversity, as much as the overall melodies and compositions presented.
Garfinkle believes that acoustic spaces are an intrinsic part of the not only the sound, but also the music. Capturing that sense of being there, in the same acoustic space as the musicians, is what makes MA Recordings so special. To achieve that goal Garfinkle's uses a pair very high quality omnidirectional microphones and customized recording equipment, some of which was designed specifically for MA.
