One of the catchiest ultra-independent recordings of the last year!

The newest release from the former Leftovers' frontman embarks on a new solo career with his first original material since the release of debut project "Got It Covered" EP, a side venture in fun 80's power pop influences. And no surpise that "Rockin' for a Living" is an another high-energy collection of sunshine tunes that sound like they could have been released thirty years ago. Recommended.

Kurt Baker - Rockin' For A Living (CD-EP 2011) RESTORED

Kurt Baker doesn't settle for dirty pop. He kicks it retro and is shameless with his smiles. With this new release it's safe to say that he's not going anywhere for a bit. He loves power pop, Cheap Trick, Elvis Costello and The Knack. And Rockin' For A Living is a tight collection of six new pop nuggets from the mastermind himself and it succeeds in all the right respects. Is it the most original thing out there? Absolutely not. But Kurt and Co. are not looking to change the world, or even tweak the formula. They know what they like and they make it they own, even if it doesn't sound all that different from the source material. It's the sort of thing the 21st century was made for, where all stylistic touch-points are aligned correctly into a powerful gestalt, as opposed to a simple game of spot the influence. It's often shocking how tuned in Baker is to the original spirit of post-war pop music, and in a backwards way his retro-fitted vision is a refreshing breath of fresh air musically. There aren't many bands out there that rock hard while making you feel good, and Kurt Baker is one of the best…
