Request from a user. I understand Nogues's albums are pretty hard to get.
Kristen Nogues b1952 Versailles was, with Alan Stivell, one of the more remarkable students of classical harpist and composer Denise Megevand, from when she was 8 years old. Megevand herself was a student of Lily Laskine, and ventureed beyond her classical training to explore the music of different world cultures, and introduced unusual microtonal and rhythmic experiments into her compositions. Kristen continued her work in this area, so expect sophisticated compositions, unusual sound effects drawn from the harp, and unsettling rhythms and tonalities. This is not your typical CD of Breton folk music on harp. She uses acoustic and Camac electric harps, and uses them well. This is challenging but rewarding istening. After this, and Kernelec, she made a few jazz recordings, before she died of cancer at a young age.
Note: you’ll see a very strange log here, which says that reading errors occurred in four of the eleven tracks, all exactly at the very end of them, when the music is gradually becoming silent. No irregularities can be heard however, so it’s OK. At least to my ears, which are as sharp as an owl’s. But I still think it’s weird. As if something went wrong with the pressing – or EAC is seeing ghosts.
