Karen Souza - Language of Love (2020)

While Karen Souza's voice may sound like it was made for jazz, she is in fact a relative newcomer to this genre of music. She was born on January 10, 1984 in the city of Santa Rosa, La Pampa, Argentina. Her career began under various psydeonymns as she provided vocals and lyrics to a number of electronic music producers and she was part of several International House hits. She can be found singing under these pseudonymns on albums such as Pacha Ibiza, FTV (FashionTV), Paris Dernier and Hotel Costes, privé.

She had just begun to flirt with the idea of singing to jazz when she was contacted and invited to join the production of the first volume of the series, Jazz and '80s. No one imagined the success that the series would have almost over night.

Her first solo album is called Essentials I. This album features magical renditions of classics such as “Every breath you take” (The Police), “Do you really want to hurt me?” (Culture Club), “Creep” (Radiohead) and “Tainted love” (Soft Cell), which have instantaneously become the audiences favorites.

In 2012 Karen have been started touring all around the world and in she released "Hotel Souza", which features previously unreleased songs for her own, making her comeback, decided to satisfy her loyal fans. Full of wonderful songs, this album surprises the audience with wonderfully produced tracks, which reveals a thorough treatment for each song. Recorded in LA and accompanied by a wonderful orchestra, she displays her unique voice and performing style. In collaboration with Pam Oland (a multiple Grammy nominated songwriter who has worked with stars like Whitney Houston, Earth, Wind and Fire and Aretha Franklin) songs like "Paris", "Lie to me", "Delectable you" and "Feels so good" are now part of the audience favorites.

Following her successful and previous albums Essentials and Hotel Souza, in 2015 Karen brings us Essentials II, a meticulous selection of hits of all time in fantastic Jazz versions, in which her voice takes us to an intimate and sensual world. This time, the album was produced by the mythical Richard Gottehrer, famous for his work with stars such as Blondie, The Go-Gos, Dr. Feelgood, Richard Hell and The Bongos,
among others. Recorded in The Orchard Studios, in New York City, its
carefully and incredibly produced sound invites us to enjoy Karen’s warm voice as we have never been able before.

By the end of 2017, Karen surpriced her fans once again, this time with a full experince album called "Velvet Vault". “This new one has a little bit of everything, it has standards, covers, my own material, our first duet with the amazing singer and trumpeter Toku too and many collaborators like Tom “Bones” Malone, Robin Banerjee among others. The key component has been team work, the album just flowed. It’s been an amazing journey and I am especially proud that I was the main producer on this new album. I was involved in every tiny detail. I has been a very joyful and satisfying experience” the singer commented. “This is the second time that Richard (Gotterher) joins us on vocal production, it is always a pleasure to have someone like Richard with us, he is our voice of experience” she added. Velvet Vault is now available in digital formats, CD and also vinyl.

Karen is now on her biggest tour ever, Velvet Vault Tour. She's gonna be performing at several Festivals and venues such as Mapo Art Center in Seoul, Cotton Club Japan, Jazz á Toute Heure France, Guitar Festival Barcelona, to name a few.
