Mr. Zimmerman deserves 10 stars for his performance of the Second Piano Concerto. It is three in one - Passionate, Musical and Precise. It is true the first piano concerto seems much more reserved and kind of timid. Berstein on the contrary is much better conducting the first and quite uninvolved conducting the second. At many places VPO is all over the place, and the players look really uninvolved. I would blame that to Berstein - he seems to enjoy Zimmerman's playing so much he forgets why he is at the podium. If Jochum or Szell or even Abbado conducted the second piano concerto the orchestra playing would be much more to the standards of Zimmermann's playing.
